Any body fishing for blue cats? I understand that winter is the best time to fish for them. I would like to get in touch with any one who is catching them. I would like to start fishing for them and don't know much about how to go about it. Thanks

Any population of blue cats generally hang below shad schools just like white bass or anything else this time of year. They are a roaming catfish. An exception to this are ones that lurk below the lake dams. These generally stack up together in a deep holes somewhere. I used to fish them with spoons and cicadas below LOZ. Best was 20 pounds and lots in the 10 pound range.

That size would tickle me. I am looking for some fun and some good eating. I guess I would have to head down towards deep water. The water up here at Forsyth isn't much above 10 ft.

There is a good article in the current issue of In-Fisherman on cats in MO-KS lakes in Feb/Mar. Covers the migration up on flats chasing shad when they go shallow in the spring. Also covers fishing top water for cats. That would have to be a treat. Now, if the weather would just warm a bit. If you can't find the article, let me know and will send you details.

We catch a lot of blue cats this time of year on norfork right above the bridges useing shiners and fishing in 60 -80 foot of water with 11 foot crappie rods and 6 lb test. It is a blast. biggest was 42 pounds last year. Beauty of it you will usually get some stripers and hybrids while your at it. Light line is a must because of the clarity of the water and the long rods is the only way to get them in plus it is a lot of fun....Check my website and youll see some pics of the blues and the stripers from last year ozarkstripers.com
