budman Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I will be in Ponca Feb 20-22 and am looking for an area to walk in and fish. I have never fish this part of the Buffalo, have only fish the mid to lower parts. What would the water and fishing be like now. I know the snow melt will put a lot of cold water into the river but will a big warm up and sunshine I was hoping to get some fishing in. Can anyone help with where to fish and any tips?
bobber Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 sorry to say i don't think you'll have any luck at all that upper 20 some miles of river.it has been dry since june! and just got a small amount of water in it as of a few weeks ago . the smallies get winter lock jaw until that water temp comes up to the mid 40's . sorry for the bad news! ....you could scout steel creek go to the end of the camp ground past the bathrooms and each table has a trail leading down to the river . <*)))))))>< * AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED CANOE, and SWIFT WATER RESCUE INSTRUCTOR.*
taxidermist Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Use small white jigs or the smallest white road runner you can find, fish slow and the head of the holes, slow and deep will catch fish.
