So they brought the water up to 2high around noon.. and at 2pm the horm blew 1 BIG LONG ONE, adding to the 2 they had, there were gonna bring it up to 4 in a hurry...meaning 4 units are on is coming on line HARD. No pause inbetween.

A guy was stuck on the island (again).... and i watched him.

I watched him until I knew he was going be to trouble. ( I thought about breaking the glass at # 2 / for the inline phone, but I knew better..)

So I took off all my gear and jumped in the truck, drove up to the gates below the powerhouse and hit the button right below the dam. Told the operator a guy stuck on the island. Knowing me - they shut down to 100MW and called MO Water Patrol. The guy was really scared.. but I calmed him down, telling him help - by boat - help WAS on the way.

He got picked up and ferried across by an innocent bystander that just happened to see his arms flaying around for rescue help... big thanks to the couple for noticing a truly 'stuck' angler.

AND IT ALL happened right before an MDC AGENT AND THE WATER PAROL BOAT SHOW'D UP.

Should this guy have gotten a ticket or not ?

(impeading the flow of hydroelectric power generation is against the law )

Wow, what a bad situation to get into. I remember the second time fishing there and heard the horn blow and was on the south side of the lake. By the time I was about halfway to the north side, I was getting a bit worried that I might now make it and I tell you I was getting a bit panicky. I can just imagine what this poor guy was thinking. Glad to hear everyone was on his side and he got help as quickly as he did. Not sure about ticket wise, but I am sure he surely will never have to worry about doing that again. Listen to the horns and as soon as they are sounding, head to shore.

I agree with griffin. You do have to haul your rear end out of there though or that will happen to you everytime. It is even worse on the white below Bull Shoals.

I think he should have been ticketed, we shouldn't have to pay for his mistake in making to many "One more casts".

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Oh, I don't think he should be ticketed despite whether he was new to the lake or not. I mean there are plenty of signs and notices. Its was a dangerous mistake. At the same time I would like to find a link for a federal or state law about impeding the flow of hydroelectric power and how it would apply ot a stranded fisherman..I can't seem to find it anywhere in the federal registry or Mo state criminal code?

I still say ticket that guy.

'Twas a shame they, SWPA/MDC, showed up late on this occasion.

(there are signs at every access, he should've known better)

We all make mistakes... ever heard of mercy? Should think about dishing some out for the next time you may need some.

Signs warn of rising water. Horns warn of rising water. So he should have realized about rising water. Yet Brian by your own post you indicate that you have seen 4 (at least) separate occasions where someone was trapped by rising water.

The problem is in judgement. How many times have we been driven out of the water by a horn only to watch for an hour before realizing that no water was coming. Or had the water come up 2" then recede within minutes.

I agree that the guy should have recognized the signs and not been in that situation. But his life was endangered by his failure, so I bet he doesn't make that mistake again. I don't think a ticket would drive home the point any better.

I have read the signs numerous times, and I am aware of the danger. But when this thread started, I had to really think exactly where the signs were and what they said, because I haven't looked at them in a very long time. I realize that complacency might have put me (or any one of us) in the same situation as that guy. I learned from his mistake.

I also learned from Brian's post. I probably would have broken the phone. BTW, what happens when you break the phone?
