What a great idea, wader wash stations are in place for the season opener of all 4 trout parks. A wash with 5 percent salt solution is all that is needed to keep the dreaded rock snot at bay?

8000 Expected at Season Opener.

Not to start another round of arguing here but the MDC also appears to be onboard for the replacement of felt soles with rubber.

"Civiello said anglers can help prevent the spread of rock snot by cleaning fishing gear and waders and drying them in the sun for 48 hours when moving between waters. They also can help by replacing felt-soled waders with rubber-soled ones."

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

Through the efforts of Phil and the Branson TU, the stations are going in at Taney also.

They should put them down here in AR where it (didymo) already is so that when anglers leave, they don't take it with them.

Not trying to start an argument about MDC, just trying to figure out if 5% salt solution will be sufficient to kill Rock Snot. I thought they suggest bleach. I was surprised to see them. I noticed signs at all accesses on the Spring River Friday regarding the proper care of waders.

It is just a matter of time before felt is not allowed in MO's streams. Last year when I was in Colorado Springs the fly shops had a trade in deal on your old felt sole boots to get the new rubber soled ones.

I just don't know if the rubber with studs even will give you enough grip on slimy rocks.

I don't think it will have any affect. There are too many that don't care or are ignorant of the situation. It, unfortunately, only takes one.

I think it would work much better in the lessor known streams, and even Taney.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

True, but at least MDC is doing something to tackle the issue- there's now no excuse, they're making it as convenient as humanly possible for folks to do the right thing. Whether they will is an entirely different issue- and given there are so many trash cans at the parks and so much trash never seems to make it to them, I'm not holding my breath.

But it's a good sign, at least.

From what I hear it will require a 3 minute soak in the salt solution. Even if anglers choose not to use the wash stations, perhaps the educational value they take home will help stem the spread of "rock snot". Great idea by MDC.
