zarraspook Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Went into Springfield this morning, to SAM's at Campbell and James river.. In the field across from SAM's there were 300+ men, bull-dowsers, cranes, skip loaders, backhoes, ect.... I ask a "hardhat" directing traffic around a 18 wheeler " what you building"? He said " a 50,000sf ACADEMY SPORTS store"; "should be open by this fall" !! "Look up OPTIMIST in the dictionary - there is a picture of a fishing boat being launched"
Thunderin Gobbler Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Yeah I saw that on the news yesterday morning. SO LONG BASS PRO!!! Academy has much lower prices, and a pretty good selection of hunting and fishing gear.
Members HYDE Posted February 25, 2011 Members Posted February 25, 2011 Yeah I saw that on the news yesterday morning. SO LONG BASS PRO!!! Academy has much lower prices, and a pretty good selection of hunting and fishing gear. i like Academy, but they dont have near the inventory of tackle BPS has or offers, very limited in what they do carry in certain brands...Storm, zoom, culpript ect... and the last time i was in the joplin store the guy in the "outdoor" section didnt know what a wiggle wart was... they will do some business but BPS aint goin anywhere...but academy does sell more waterfowl stuff and sell Federal Duck Commander loads! with that said i will probily buy my next shotgun from academy because of there prices!
Members CrappyKing Posted February 25, 2011 Members Posted February 25, 2011 Finally some competition for BPS. Maybe they'll bring down there prices a little, especially on ammunition.... Now bring on the Cabelas and you'll see them both driven out of town.

mosouthpaw Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 academy will save you tons of money... or cost you more depending on how much stuff you like to buy.
Members ckjacks Posted March 3, 2011 Members Posted March 3, 2011 Thanks for posting the good news! They have some good deals.
Members crackleback Posted March 4, 2011 Members Posted March 4, 2011 I do not work for BPS, but I will always support them. My wife and I moved to Springfield 4 years ago. We love it. When friends visit, we take a great deal of pride in taking them to BPS . . . . they always enjoy it and want to go back when they return. When the outdoor museum reopens, there will be no sporting goods facility anywhere in the USA that will rival it in any way. We find the prices reasonable and the staff truly exceptional and knowledgeable. With the surrounding rivers, lakes and streams, it is a dream come true for us to live here and BPS adds to the overall enjoyment. Previously, we lived in the big city environment . . . . yuuuuuccK!!! War Eagle Camo
Members clf989s Posted March 7, 2011 Members Posted March 7, 2011 Sportsman Outfitters (off of Bennett by Kraft) has a great selection and a very knowledgable staff. I've been quite impreseed. They also have a great selection of Megabass lures.
