Went into Springfield this morning, to SAM's at Campbell and James river..

In the field across from SAM's there were 300+ men, bull-dowsers, cranes, skip loaders, backhoes, ect....

I ask a "hardhat" directing traffic around a 18 wheeler " what you building"?

He said " a 50,000sf ACADEMY SPORTS store"; "should be open by this fall" !!

Got one in Rogers already, nice place for H2O lures but that's about all I get there. Lots of space and clothing but the plastics and other lures just are not targeted to the area.

Academy is a great store and we love to shop there, but if you're looking for a good tackle selection go to Hook, Line and Sinker.

I have not been very impressed with Academy since they opened in Rogers. They do have a bigger fishing selection than I thought they'd have, but nothing really special and prices are not discounted. I'd rather give the business to Hook, Line and Sinker anyday. Or Bass Pro, if I lived in Springfield.

I don't know who they are targeting their soft plastics at, but they don't carry anything I use in the right size or color. Same deal at the Joplin store. I haven't been to the Fort Smith location, but pretty sure they are all EXACTLY the same. That's why they didn't want the vacant Sportsman's Warehouse location right across the street in Rogers. You can't carry different merchandise and keep the stores exactly the same, so they apparently have decided they don't need to target their merchandise to local conditions. Sportsman's Warehouse had much better selection and service, but I guess that model isn't profitable anymore. Southtown and Hook Line & Sinker will get 95% of my business now.

I didn't really want to start a who's the best store but, I vote with most of the comments about using "Hook Line & Sinker" when I am in the Rogers area....
