Members scotth Posted February 27, 2011 Members Posted February 27, 2011 Hello I would like to come down to the white and do a little fishing. However I only have a drift boat and wanted your advise. Is there a good day float? I saw a possible drift from wildcat to cotter but I don't know anything about it other than what I can get over the Internet. Is a float possible for the norfork of the white? And just as important, maybe more important, is there a shuttle service available in the area that service the rivers? Any and all advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Scott
Snow Fly Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Norfork of the White? Sure you can fish with a drift boat........I assume you are talking about NF of W located in Southern Mo. Sunburst Ranch is located on the river and they do shuttles. http://sunburstranchcanoe.com located west of West Plains Mo. gotmuddy Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Rim Shoals to Ranchette wouldnt be all day but a good float. Rim shoals to buffalo city would be a good all day float. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

Thanks Scott [/quote you can do various day floats on the white below Bull Shoals dam, dam-white hole, white hole-wildcat, wildcat-cotter, cotter-rim shoals. To make a good drift I like a minimun of 1 Generator running, and still wade some of the shoals as you go. PM me and I'll give you a number for a shuttle service. Members Matt Tucker Posted March 6, 2011 Members Posted March 6, 2011 There are plenty of day floats on the White River. The toughest part of fishing the White out of a drift boat is finding a shuttle. But it is getting more and more common. My favorite day float is Dam to Wild Cat Shoals. I have done the Dam to Cotter in a day float, when they were generating quite a bit. It was actually alot faster than you think it would be. Call Mountain River Fly Shop in Gassville and talk o Steve Dally regarding shuttle service and he will hook you up with contacts. --Matt Tucker =================================================== The pursuit of Ozark trout on the fly. http://www.OzarkChronicles.com ===================================================
Members scotth Posted March 6, 2011 Author Members Posted March 6, 2011 Hey guys thanks for the info. I did the last few days on the white and it is a great river. I did two floats with no generation at all and did really well on the typical bugs. One day was on low water till about 2pm and the water hit me and that was great as well. I would say that the drift boat on the white is almost perfect. I did see one other drifter down there and knew of two more on the river, so it is catching on. The shuttles are very reasonable and very reliable. Great job from the guys at mountain river fly shop, they are as good as it gets. I have floated every major river in Colorado and wyoming and Montana and the white is there with some of the great tailwaters of the west. If I were to pick a perfect boat for those souther Ozark waters it would be a skiff like Montana boatbuilders makes, http://www.montanaboatbuilders.com/kitsplans_skiff.htm, or the new skiffs from http://www.premierflyfishing.net/x-series-skiff.php/x-series-skiff.php, but I prefer wood of course. If you had a few guys meet up you could do your own shuttles and I think it is the best way to fish that river. You can go anywhere you want on low flows and wade all the good runs. And if the water kicks up you can just keep on fishing an go anywhere you want. Hope to see some guys on the water. Thanks and tight lines Scott
