hoglaw Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Lots of views but no reports. I'm going to give it a go this afternoon/evening. Hopefully I'll have something worthwhile to report.
Guest Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 yep, they're biting. The crowds will be in full force on the weekends and afternoons.
hoglaw Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 I had a tough time out there today. Went past the first downstream shoal in the flatbottom and goofed around the big hole below it. Wind was horrible, and didn't want to go much farther as a result. Only managed one small male in an hour and a half of fishing. Most by me had similar results, but did talk to a guy with a supreme that had made a longer run and did quite well.
Stump bumper Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 We got up early and launched out of Hickory Creek at sunrise, ran up war eagle as far as we could and all we found were crappie. There were a lot of people catching crappie and I saw very few going back into the water so I am guessing most were over 10in. But did not run up on any whites/strippers. Wind came up bad around noon. Water was 56 degrees and coffee w/cream color with a lot of silt and leaves suspended. If you are going after crappie, some red in the jig and using tubes seemed to be the trick. White/chartreuse or chartreuse sure will not work in a Malibu jig, plain white jigs are also a zero. Crappie were right on the wood and not moving 2ft from cover to feed, but good catches if you stayed on the wood.
1969Larson Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Fished from the bank for just a few minutes on the gravel bar downstream from twin bridges where Richland Creek comes in. No whites for me - just one nice 19-inch walleye. Several people were catching them. I saw several people leaving with stringers of white bass as well.

Nice eye, Beaver is slowly becoming a walleye lake, they should be spawning soon. Did you see anyone catch a big female?
Quillback Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Hey Stump Buumper, did you launch at the Hickory Creek marina? Just wondering if the corps ramp is reopened with the water coming up 3 feet in the last few weeks.
