Members Fishin Fanatic Posted March 9, 2011 Members Posted March 9, 2011 I've been hearing a lot about how Stockton is a good walleye fishery. I was just wondering what the size and walleye numbers where like here; along with the generally best locations and times to catch walleye in the lake.
kwall Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Don't waste your time in that mud hole, it's done been fished out Check some past posts might help your search.I haven't fished it yet this year, but did well last year, lots of up and comers also, welcome aboard
Walleyedmike Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Stockton has an excellent walleye population. I have been boating on Stockton for years, but have only been "fishing" there for a couple of years. The kids are all grown up now, so the skiing and tubing have given way to fishing. I have found Stockton walleye to be much like the walleye in any other lake you may have fished in the past. I troll spinner rigs and slow death rigs with crawlers much of the time. I also troll cranks as well. The wife has had some luck jigging with gulp minnows (she doesn't like handling live bait, but I'm not much for jigging). As far as the size of the fish, I generally don't have many problems boating a limit, however I never seem to catch many above 20". I'm gonna work on trying to find bigger fish this spring and summer...we'll see how that goes. I have a camper at the lake and try to get down every couple of weeks, hopefully gas prices don't hit $4.00 cause I've got a four hour drive. The camp ground won't have water for a month or so...I'll start posting reports then. I have no winter/early spring experience, so as kwall says, do a little research on the forum. lotsa information on here. Best of luck! WM
