So did you get your boat fixed?

Still torn apart, truck needed some parts this week, will get boat parts next pay day if something else doesn't break first. Fixed all the wiring, have everything clean, just need to get the gasket kits and hope it isn't a high priced electrical part. I am really missing the spring stripers. I am learning more and more about the motor, part replacement is easy, if I was just better at trouble shooting.

Well carbs all back together and new lines and fuel bulb is tighter than it has ever been, makes me think I was getting air in the line before.

But know I can't get power any where, chased ground wires everywhere and can't find blown fuse, loose ground anywhere. I fixed one wire on the igintion on the motor and those where all the wires I messed with, so can't figure out what happened.

The boat has a Perko switch that has OFF-1-All-2 postions on it. Is that switch stock to Nitros or an add on?

I have no power anywhere, biliage pump, indicatior lights come on, fishfinder does not, no power to raise or lower enginge. There is a large fuse next to the Perko switch as 12.7 going in and 12.7 coming out.

Anyone got any other ideas?

Yes, I did check leads to the battery, all are super tight.

UPDATE UPDATE

By passed Perko switch and hooked up starting battery that on line 2 directly and everything is working, bumped motor and she started on a bump, quckiest I have ever seen the engine start. All that is left is put the boat in the water and see if she handles a load. Still courious if anyone has one of those switches.

Great news! I was going to suggest checking every single ground wire. A loose ground will do really wierd things. I had this happen to me at Hickory one day. Spent an hour backchecking wires, fuses, etc. My buddy said, "is this supposed to be loose?" Sure enough, it was and that was the issue....loose ground connection at the starter solenoid. Killed the whole system.

Glad to see someone has their motor fixed. As soon as time and funds allow, I'm hoping to get mine going again. It's killing me that I'm not getting any fishing time on the water.

Hope the boat runs good as new for you!

Well couldn't get to idle, so just about the end of my repair knowledge and funds. Just glad it is paid off, will just be gathering dust for a while.

Sorry to hear that. Do you have a repair manual? I picked up one of of Ebay for $15. It could tell you some easy things to check that won't cost money and you may fix your problem. Definately sounded like a carb issue and now you need a fine tune adjustnent to get it to run right. My bud use to race cars and he said only his Dad was allowed to touch the carbs when they rebuilt engines. They are pickythat way. I bet you could follow the repair manual and fix it.

Funny thing is, the carb is the life's blood of an outboard. You don't mes with it unless you know it needs it and you know how to fix it. Might be worth looking at the repair manual or let Wolf take a look at it when the funds are back.

Welcome to the beached boaters club. I'm thinking of starting a support group for guys like us! Haha!

I've been going step by step w/manual but still haven't got it figured out. Guess it's save and wait now.

You're not making me feel good about my rebuild now....

Tell ya what, if I can get mine fixed before you do, you're welcome to tag along with me one Sat. morning. But don't hold your breath, you'll probably get yours fixed before I do. :P

Well got every thing adjusted out and puring at idile now, starting good, butttt broke a little plastic clip that holds the connector between the throttle arm and the throttle cam. I can't find anything like that on Iboats, will hit the boat shop tomorrow to find out if they sell those or it is some expensive kit or something.

Does Mercury or your repair manual not have a parts breakdown? If I can find an engine cowling emblem for a 79 Evinrude on Ebay, you should be abke to Google search the part number. :-) I bet you can find it if the repair shops can't or if the price seems high.

I know Evinrude has a nice parts breakdown even for my old motor. There are other sites tha you can find good parts with other than Iboats. Although I do love Iboats and I'm an active member there as well.

Well carbs rebuilt, fuel system is solid and clean. Runs perfect on water dogs, runs fine in the water. Put it in gear in the yard on water dog she runs fine in gear. Buttt on the lake, put it in gear she dies. Looks like an electrical problem I can't solve. I have gone through the manual, unfortunately Mercury didn't use the same color wires as the manual so I can't chase the wires to save my life.

So guess it is a planter this year.
