Larry Richards Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I am putting together a box of Crappie jigs. What size jig heads and what baits would you include in the box.
Members sgunter Posted March 10, 2011 Members Posted March 10, 2011 1/8 0UNCE PINK AND RED JIG HEAD with a pearl slider, chart. tail. Works every time.
BrianS Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 When I used to do alot of crappie fishing I tied my own maribou jigs with a pink head and white maribou. I tied 1/16 to 1/8 oz heads but it always seemed I could catch more on the 1/16 oz. If the water is real murky a chartreuse jig would sometimes work HOOK 'EM HORNS
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 10, 2011 Root Admin Posted March 10, 2011 I like fishing lite stuff for crappie, for sure when they move close to the bank. 1/16th oz and even 1/32 oz. I like pink and white but I like purple and black too, something to mix up the contrast. Purple with a pink head is a killer for me. Gray is a good neutral color. Chartreuse is always good. When they're off the bank in deep water, we use buck tails and go well- white bass too.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 10, 2011 Root Admin Posted March 10, 2011 Thinking about the swimming minnows I use, the same colors should work for jigs too. Black/white, smoke, motor oil (sculpin), blue/white. Actually blue is a great color- not many people use blue.
Mike Worley Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I like Hutch tackle's bucktail jigs. These hand tied jigs are really deadly on anything that swims. I like the 1/16 OZ in #28 (white with tinsle) Check out Hutch's website (www.riverwalleyes.com) These are very high quality jigs and are very resonably priced.
Members Col Ron Posted March 23, 2011 Members Posted March 23, 2011 Mike, That visit to the website cost me $94. They sure look good. Hopefully, the fish will think they are pretty also. Col Ron Lakeview

Col Ron Lakeview Yeah, I just sent Hutch a check for $80 myself (second order this spring) They sure do make some nice jigs, so far I haven't had anything wear out on any of the jigs except some of the tinsle from the White Bass tearing them up.
