mic Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Gas is going up, the weather sucks, and I'm stuck at work most of the time. So, I decided to develop the "unofficial" OAF flyboxes. My plan over time is to develop boxes based on insect type and input from you all. I based my information from multiple sources from this forum, books on the subject, Ozark hatch charts, and my limited experience. As you will see, I have nothing on the drys as I'm just learning. So anyway, I am starting with mayflies. Please review and post your favorites for the individual hatches and life cycle stages. I'll add them until we get a good build. Over the year, I'll work on the rest. Enjoy and post... Ozark Anglers Fly Box.pdf
troutfiend1985 Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Mic I like your idea. I will try to look through some of my old notes and find some stuff. I did see that caddis flies aren't too big on your list, I think you might want to add some to your box(in my best super secret whisper voice). However, this might be a good starting place to see what's in your stream that you fish. http://www.mostreamteam.org/interactivemap.asp “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis

The caddis flybox will be next, then midges, stoneflies, and terrestrials.
flytyer57 Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 You might want to add some Humpies for those indicator flies. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

flytyer57 Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 What colors and sizes? I would imagine any color or size as long as it floats your nymph below. I like red, yellow and green/olive in about a size 10. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

Ahh, I got it, I jst need to learn how to read better Then I would say as an attractor for Mayfly hatches: Adams Adams parachute Pheasant Tail Parachute GRHE Parachute Sizes can vary, I don't fish size 12's, so maybe 14-18? As far as the actual mayflies, I would think the only one on there that I didn't see is the Red Quill. “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis
