Members SKansasC Posted March 12, 2011 Members Posted March 12, 2011 I will be going to Missouri next week and was wondering if anyone knew any areas around Branson that would be good for a beginning fly fisher to catch some trout? Size really doesnt matter, but I would like to have a decent chance of catching a trout, and maybe avoid a huge croud if possible. Being from Kansas, I rarely get the opportunity to catch trout, so I am really looking forward to this opportunity! Thanks!
oneshot Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Go to Lilley's they will help with all your needs. Or if their not running water you could go below the Dam. I'm going down next week but I'm just going to Bait fish from the Dock at Coopers Creek. oneshot

Taney + Lilleys Landing = good times If the Dam is generating, then you could always rent a boat. If that's not for you then you could go to Roaring River. Might be crowded in the main section but you could go to either the C&R section or below the park to the white ribbon area. “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis
Members SKansasC Posted March 13, 2011 Author Members Posted March 13, 2011 Are any of these waters fishable without waders? I do have access to some if they are needed. Thanks for all the suggestions so far!
Zach Bearden Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 In the upper reaches of Roaring River wading is not allowed. The C&R area is wadeable though. Taney is almost necessary to have waders up by the dam. "Its clearly Bree time baby!" Member: 2009 U.S. Youth Fly-Fishing Team. troutfiend1985 Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Hey guys, I've always wondered if there is areas that you could wade on taney when there is moderate generation(like 1 or 2 units). It seems that when summer comes around I always want to go to Taney but the darn generators are going Thanks for any info. “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis

Albeit much more limited, there is some wading to be done at 2 units, and considerably more at 1. Since I am two for two my last two trips down with 2 units running I am sure I will complete the trifecta on my next trip and I will take some pics for you so you have somewhat of an idea. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
