Members brad11 Posted March 19, 2011 Members Posted March 19, 2011 Yes I was down Slough Hollow Rd. Just look for all the cars and you'll find the fish. I went last night. Friday with a friend and we ended up catching 17 whites. Little ones during the day and big sows after dark. Waders are useful too to help reach the fish sometimes. Thanks going to head down tonight if thw weather holds out. Can't wait to get a white on the hook.

Are the banks lined throughout the whole day or mostly an evening thing during the run? Thought about maybe heading that way when we come down but have no interest fighting the crowd. Unlike most, I would assume, we would be C&R only. White bass meat is too strong for my liking! Thanks.
Sam Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 White bass meat is too strong for my liking! Soak white bass filets for two hours in the 'fridge in Club Soda or Seltzer Water before frying. You won't be able to tell 'em from crappie filets.

You won't be able to tell 'em from crappie filets. Also cut the "mud line" off each fillet. (Looks like a vein) Soak in cold lemon juice/salt/water mixture. Serve with lemon juice, green hot sauce and honey. As soon as out of fryer, squeeze lemon juice, take a bite. Dab in hot sauce, take a bite. Dip in honey to finish. Repeat. I was skeptical about the honey until I tried it. Yum !
Members Dapper Dan Man Posted March 25, 2011 Author Members Posted March 25, 2011 So since the weather has taken a turn to the cold will this end the white bass run for the year? or will it start back up? or are they still going to run regardless? i'm new to white bass fishing just wondering if its worth my time to head back out there. Me and a friend went out last night on beaver and caught one. while i was cleaning that one fish i met another gentleman that said they were farther up into beaver creek last night i was just in the wrong spot (story of my life! lol) anyhoo. just trying to get an idea on what to expect. rangerman Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 This cold weather will not help matters, but there will still be a few around. I have caught them as early as the first week of feburary into late may. Alot of it depends on how much cold water rolls in. If the water drops a couple or few degrees for that matter, they may pull out completely and stage again. There are a TON of variables when it comes to a white bass spawn and any other fish for that matter.
Sam Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 That's it. There are a ton of variables when it comes to the white bass run, and it's always possible the whole thing will get flooded out if we get big spring rains. Generally though, there are white bass in the rivers from about now through the end of April, and sometimes a little bit into May. It's important to know that they don't all come up at once. There are different classes and bunches coming up at different times, and sometimes going back down and staging again if the weather turns cold or if we get a cold rain. I think the height of it is when the dogwood and redbuds bloom, and we're still on the early side of that.
Mike Worley Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 The dogwoods & red buds are starting to bloom at my house right now. We have been getting a little rain down here so maybe the creeks will muddy up a little and get the whites biting again. We were doin' pretty good on them in the back of the creeks & bays till the water cooled back down and cleared up.
Members Dapper Dan Man Posted March 30, 2011 Author Members Posted March 30, 2011 don't know if this helps, but i heard through the grapevine that people were tearing up the whites on swan two afternoon/evenings ago. me and my fishing buddy went there yesterday and didn't see anything happening at beaver or swan. Members yeehaw Posted March 30, 2011 Members Posted March 30, 2011 Hmmmm.....they were stealthy fishermen then. Seriously though, I was fishing up by the dam and over in swan on monday afternoon/evening. Noone was catching whites up at the dam and there wasn't a single person fishing at swan except one boat at the mouth of the creek. I must've just missed 'em or something. Fishing was horrible.
