Fishin' Freak Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 I was just wondering how many of you target docks as a main area for finding fish. I have not targeted them enough in my opinion and am curious if spots and smallies will hold on docks or is it just primary largemouth? I would think at this time of year dock fishing would be by far best at night. I was just wondering how many of you hit docks regularly and what approach you take to fishing them.
denjac Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 shhhhhhhhhh. Give me a dock anyday this time of year, day or night. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. For a nation to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle." ~ Winston Churchill ~
RSBreth Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Look at docks as another element that attracts fish, not just the dock itself. What I mean is that if an area has alot of potential to hold fish, AND has a dock it will be good. You can't just randomly hit docks and get consistent action. One other tip: Look at a dock and see if there is a grill, chairs, maybe even a fish feeder. Most folks that hang out on the dock they own feed the fish. And skip a bait further up in there than anyone else can!
Hunter91 Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 A partner of mine did some diving under his dock last year with some scuba equipment and was shocked at the fish he saw. Big crappie, smallmouth to estimated 4lbs, kentuckies. We have fished off his dock many times and seldom catch any good fish besides large bluegill.
