Vince and I put in at Hickory Hollow Resort Ramp at 4 pm yesterday. Babler said he'd heard some very good white bass and crappie reports from that area. I thought we'd pick a good time since it got cloudy and the wind had picked up. Not so. Temp dropped and it was chilly. I didn't take enough cover and got chilled. The fish were chilly too.

We headed up. There was a boat with 3 guys at a brush pile along the left, channel side and I saw them catch a crappie as we passed. Water was stained- good color. We boated on up a couple of bends, about 1.5 miles, and saw some more boats. We fished the flat for whites, nothing. Went alittle ways up, now in sight of the 86 bridge, and saw a group in a deck boat catching crappies right and left on the shallow flat close to a stump. Most were short. They were using floats, most of them. After they moved on, we pulled in and caught.... nothing. Man, brought us down a notch. they moved down on the same side and continued to do pretty well down to where the bluff starts. I say this for those who might go to that area.

We ended up catching 2 keepers out on the flat there in I'd say 7 feet of water. We didn't have a depth finder nor a water temp gage. There's lots of brush up there so when they move to the bank, I think this area will be great to go back to.

Not sure where the whites were. They might have been up further in the creek. I thought we'd catch at least a few but didn't.

Just wanted to add to the Kings post, did not have a chance last night, crappie was good yesterday until the wind and cold came in, after that it slowed, but they cold still be caught if you could get close to cover without getting hung up. Had 35 keeper crappie yesterday with me and the boys, plus my father in law. Caught a lot of shorts also, and probably only fished about 2 miles of river. Most fish were males and most of what we caught were 10.5 inches to 11, just a few over the 11 mark. Will be getting back after them tomorrow if weather permits.

Did you fish the same area? Below the bridge?

One of my keepers was a male 10 inches but the other was a female about 13 inches. Didn't keep either.

We didn't go up by the big pile of brush below the bridge. Probably should have.

Catch any whites? I wondered where they were. If I was in a faster boat, I would have looked around more. I was in one of my jons with a 25 hp. All our bass boats were rented here on Taney.

I need to get my own boat!!

No,I was much further down and only caught one white. Father in law just got back and they loaded the boat with whites just below Sweetwater. They came up schooling and they went to work. He had 12 crappie also, but the wind was too much to do a lot of that.

Go further up the river farther Phil....The fish are there. I know of a couple of limits caught there yesterday ;).... I was picking up the big sows and walleye last time along the bluff on the right bend above hickory hollow.
