On The Fly 6 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Made my way to Roaring River to try my luck. Arrived about 10:30 or so and grabbed my tag before heading up to Tim's to see what was working. Drove around Zone 1 and 3 to see JUST how crowded it was. Pretty much shoulder to shoulder in most places...so I decided to try my luck in the Catch and Release area. It started off slow, but when I decided to try out some dries....the strikes started picking up. I tried a BWO...no luck. Then I went with a white cahill...managed one. Then I tried a big orange stimulator with a size 22 parachute adams trailing it. I managed four (2 on either fly) before I decided to change to a red midge (the wind wasnt helping my casting). Fished a few runs with the red midge and picked up 3-4 more and missed half a dozen. Lots of kids and people playing in a lot of the good places in Zone 2,...so I just explored and hiked around the river the rest of the day. Fantastic weather and Im excited for the dry fly fishing to pick up. I LOVE when they start taking beetles and hoppers! Andrew324 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Great Report. I had the catch and release all to myself on opening day this year when the horn blew. It was almost like it was reserved for me. I really enjoy sight fishing those lunkers in Zone 2 as well. I am stoked for dry fly fishing as well; onward Spring!
