Micheal Kyle Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I decided to venture out last night to the James to see if we could catch some cold front Whites. Fished from 9:30pm - 1:00am, it was a slow night ended up with just six. We went up above taylor shoal saw very few Whites, went back down and fished right across from the boat ramp and picked up 2 more purple clousers were the color of choice. I caught no fish on the strip all fish were cuaght in the deeper water on the swing. With this cold rain and cold air temps I am sure the fish have retretaed back down stream around Mcords down to longs camp area. When the water clears back up and the air temps come back there hopfully will be more Whites up stream than what was there last week. See you all in a few days Good luck To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
Predator1 Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Thanks for the report Michael...Looking forward to hittn them this week. Was the water up and moving fast?
Micheal Kyle Posted March 27, 2011 Author Posted March 27, 2011 It was low around 1050cfs just looked at water flow looks like the James is running at about 2600. If it does warm back up mid week it will be on like donkey kong:) To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
Fly_Guy Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I am MISSING the white/walleye run on the James this year - I used to get up at 3 am, go catch a bunch, come back to house and clean em, and go to work. What a way to start the day! I haven't been able to do much spot finding here in NC yet - and the quality of the lakes are nowhere near those of S.W. Missouri

Fly_Guy Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Wow FlyGuy...when did ya move to NC?... The start of the year - I've only been fishing once since - (trout). Found a job. I just wish I had figured out the white bass action earlier than I did - I only really got into it the last couple of years - and Blunk hole was about 25 min from my house!! I'm missing those fresh fried fish every night - Hope y'all tear em up! I love reading the reports (while I attempt to find some good fishing around here - I know it's out there!)

There are a few fish to be found out there in NC. Grab your waders and head to the coast this spring and fish the beaches! Great Blue fish and shark fishing. I used to vacation on the Carolina coast ever year. Great black tip shark fishing from the beaches! They have a few more teeth than the whites you used to show off to me from your driveway, but fun as heck to catch. 12' surf rod and some squid or shrimp and you can catch them all day long. It looked like you had a good showing Sunday at your open house. Am I getting new neighbors anytime soon? Kids still look for your dog. If you teach your kids to fish, your wife will let you go more often.....
Fly_Guy Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 That sounds a lot of fun - we were going to go to the beach last weekend, but got rained/colded out. Glad we had folks looking at our house - no offers yet however. We miss good neighbors, and talking about not having enough time to fish we're flying back to KC and Spfld tomorrow for the weekend to visit - but no time for white bass action. As far as pure fun goes, last year with a thunderstorm rolling in at blunk hole had to be some of the most fun fishing I've ever experienced. My MO fishing license has expired - how very sad, but I've got a NC drivers license now so I can get in-state fishing. Post a report if you get in on some early Fellows lake action. It has to be one of the best overlooked lakes (when you get there right at sunrise anyway). I'll never forget that muskie attacking my catfish... sigh... now I've got a full time job
