YES! It was a good and memorable run Shaka (Shaka Smart? Whatta name. People named Shaka Smart don't become accountants). But, or should I say But-ler, it is over for you VCU. Great game. Really. I don't know how Butler does it. They seem to be out-athleted at every position. Talent-wise, there is no comparison of them (or OTHER schools) to the elite schools (Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, Florida, UConn, etc., etal), but somehow they got it done. Good for them, and good for the smaller, OTHER schools that don't seem to be on the national, regular radar of ESPN, FOX, CBS, etc. ("What!? There are good and worthy teams in Division 1 basketball besides those in the Big East, ACC, and Big 10? Who knew?)

Alright, settle down Beavis. What does this have to do with fishing?

Nothing. Sorry. I love college basketball. Especially when "underdogs" that I have a rooting interest in, win.

Now, back to your regular scheduled programming...

Pretty impressive, not many schools go to back to back Championship games. At 33 years old Brad Stevens is about to be a rich, rich man if he plays his cards right. Too bad Mizzou can't figure out a way to get and keep a coach like him.

A lot of the Mizzou faithful are really wanting Alden to go after him or Shaka either one. Of the two, however, it's obvious at this point that Stevens would be the better pick, since Smart's team was only 4th in a weak conference before they suddenly got hot in the tournament. Doing it two years in a row with mediocre talent is really due to the coaching...except it's also due to kids who really play their hearts out, but then that's partly coaching, too.

Conventional wisdom is that Mizzou has the money to hire Stevens, but Stevens probably isn't leaving Butler for a long time...theory is that the only job he'd want is at Indiana, and he's willing to wait for that one to open. There have been a few rumors that he'd consider the Mizzou job, but not from reliable sources.

Shaka would be a gamble. He's hot now, but hasn't proven himself over multiple years.

Latest rumors from Mizzou is that Tubby Smith is being considered.

Edit...Oops, latest rumor is that Tubby said no. Now the rumor is that Steve Alford is being considered.

I'm afraid we're all going to be somewhat disappointed at the coach Mizzou gets. Just doesn't look like a lot of exciting prospects out there.
