barredrock Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Will be in Columbia Mo in august and wondering where the nearest place would be to go fly fishing for trout thanks
Outside Bend Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Maramec is probably the closest, about an hour and a half south. Little Piney Creek is about two hours south. The upper Current is 2 to 2.5 hours south. If you're not wedded to trout fishing, there's a pretty good state park about 15 minutes north of town where you can fish strip pits for bass, bluegill, and other panfish. <{{{><
Members Paul Posted April 7, 2011 Members Posted April 7, 2011 Bennett Spring State Park by Lebanon Mo is about 120 Miles from Columbia MO. Great trout fishing. If you need some advice or tackle stop in at Weaver's Tackle Store on Hwy. 64. They have a great fishing report on line.
mic Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Isn't that pay for access trout park near Columbia...sorry the name slips my mind.
XP 590 Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Isn't that pay for access trout park near Columbia...sorry the name slips my mind. Sorry, no pay for access trout park around here. We did have "winter" trout in a city park but they will be long gone by August. You might be thinking of Troutdale near Lake Ozarks, but it's been closed to fishing for a while. It's a trout farm now. * The other suggestions are all good. If you're looking for the sure thing, Bennett Springs is a good shot. With the new highways, you can go from doorstep to fishing in two hours. The Niangua outside Bennet can be pretty good too, depending on when it was stocked and the canoe traffic, during the busy season it's insane with canoes. My personal favorite would be the Blue Ribbon section of the Current, just outside Montauk State park. Depending on traffic, it's about 2.5 hours from Columbia. There are forum posts for all these places on here.
