Presage' Vs Buffalo Canoes

My wife and I need to buy at least one more canoe for Shoal Creek exploration. I see a local retailer is offering Presage canoes for $1,000 and Buffalo's for the same. Presage' are made in Canada. They look pretty good. Any comments on this comparison? Or, forget the comparison, what about each on it's own? Thanks.

no comparison, buffalo beats it hands down.. but don't pay a $1000 for one. how about $675 and tax. but you need to know the fishermans hand shake to get this deal!

Bobber obviously has lots of experience with the Buffalo canoes. I've paddled one, and wasn't particularly impressed, but it was certainly a serviceable canoe. I have not paddled a Presage, but looking at the specs, I would expect it to be a little faster, just as maneuverable, and it has lower ends, so it would be less affected by wind--and also, the guy in front fishing would be able to make lower sidearm casts.

However, the Buffalo is certainly a well made canoe, and for the price difference that Bobber is talking about, it would be much the better buy. But if you have to pay full price for either boat, I'd at least want to paddle them both before choosing.

I asked on Paddling.net if anyone had paddled a Presage. Two replies so far, one of whom compared it to the Old Town Appalachian, excellent handling in whitewater and surprising speed, other said pretty much the same thing. It does have quite a bit of rocker, which is why it's rated so well in whitewater. One thing I'm not sure about is initial stability...it might be a better whitewater tripper than a fishing canoe.

You know what you're getting with the Buffalo...vanilla design, but does most things okay.

Buffalo weighs in at 70 pounds, Presage a little more. Neither are light canoes.

you can't beat an old town canoe . and Mohawk is another good one. i deal all three. I'll have a few Jackson mini trippers and day trippers we just ordered them. but no way that canoe is like an appalachian. unless those guys paddled colemans before they got there new canoe!... just saying ,come to the river and paddle them. and see for yourself!
