oneshot Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Ok have hooked Musky just reeling in Bluegill or Crappie. Is there a way of Bait fishing for them from the bank that is consistent? oneshot
Outside Bend Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I'm not sure it'd be consistent, but they were stocked in part to eat some of the larger gizzard shad present in our reservoirs. If you can find them, I'd probably try and rig up some of the bigger (8 inch and bigger) shad, and try that. <{{{><
Bird Watcher Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I know they call them "the fish of a thousand casts". Whatever you tie on, be ready to cast it for awhile.
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Oneshot I would think the bank would be more important then the bait. A 2"-3" Black perch should get you one of them or a big flat. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Yea sounds good to me,I tell you what it sure is fun reeling in a Crappie and seeing a Big Mouth and Gills flaring right at the Boat. oneshot

Members Hillbilly Deluxe Posted April 20, 2011 Members Posted April 20, 2011 That would be the "fish of 10,000 casts." Brian www.outdoorguysradio.com
Members jamesedward Posted April 22, 2011 Members Posted April 22, 2011 You can go to L5 I think it is by the nemo bridge where the tree row runs out on the big point. Go behind the tree row and throw a big butt spinner bait and out of 100 cast you will get blasted. Some fish over 30 lbs. I still think we caught a state record muskey a few years ago. I'm talking beat the record by several pounds but I have know proof. I released her and had no camera. She was huge. Throw a big white spinner bait and wake the think and have 100 lb test thread or at least 40 lb mono. Good luck. That is also the best spot on POMM to catch that big muskey.
Members MrDontPlay Posted April 22, 2011 Members Posted April 22, 2011 What are the ideal weather conditions to catch one? I've heard crappy rainy days are good.

I would guess you really are talking about L4 rather than L5. Although both sides of the point may be good, the north side has a tree row out from a shallow bay where muskies have been caught in the past. It's good to hear you released a huge muskie. If you catch another muskie you think might be a new state record, you may want to measure the length and girth, and then enter them in the following site to determine the weight. Of course, even then the different methods of calculating the weight will vary. http://www.esoxhunter.com/weightform.php
