We are supposed to be doing a 2 day float next weekend now we are hearing that Akers can not put anyone on the river. That is not a problem for us we have our own canoes but now we are hearing we may not even be able to park a car at Cedar Grove or float the river at all. Apparently some decision will be made today and we were told to call back later this afternoon and someone should have some answers for us. Just thought i would let everyone know since im sure some people were planning on heading down this weekend. May wanna give a call before you head down.

Wonder how they would/could close the river. If the government shut-down happens and the national parks close as a result, doesn't that mean those who enforce the park will not be working?

There are no National parks in Missouri. However you are correct that the Park service employees will be laid off.

Sure has a lot of people fooled, including the staff at the park office.

That's not true. I have met with the Supt and the CLEO many times and thats Exactly what they say. There are many groups that would like to see the ONSR turned to a Natioal Park but saying it is doesnt make it so.

It's not true that people are fooled? I just got off the phone with the park office, asking about the effects of the government shut-down. I then asked the direct question, "Is the ONSR a national park." Answer, yes. Mind you, I'm not saying she was correct. Rather, she (and many others) think (maybe are fooled) into thinking it is. As I thought.

Ill agree with that ,Gene. We have the Supt at our Various Chamber and Rotary meetings. The talk starts with "In the Park" Several members of the crowd (like me )stop them, point out that the ONSR is not a park. They point out that we are correct and continue on using riverways instesd.
