Which Is Used More For Spawn Minnows Or Plastics

i was just wondering when people were out crappie fishing if they preferred minnows or grubs.

i use both and i seem to have more luck with plastics.

For the most part I use 1/16 or 1/8 oz lead heads or pony heads and a 2" grub or triple ripple. Hardly ever use minnows unless I have someone that just really wants to use them. I find that the jigs just catch more fish, you can cover more water, and you catch bigger fish. But nothing is ever 100% when you are crappie fishing. If it is a post front during the spawn and the fish have slowed or stopped, then I might tip a jig with a minnow and see if it turns them on a little.

Agree with Bob - jigs are the only way to go. In the spring when the fish are aggressive you can fish faster and cover more ground with a jig. Often I can have the jig back in the water with antoher bite before one can put a minnow on the hook. I prefer a white or something with white in it during the spring.

With all that said there are times when minnows are better - we must remember live bait is proven. It's rare I even buy minnows anymore cause I tend to catch bigger and better crappie on jigs.
