Danoinark Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 I have to agree with Wayne. My shallow nylon net seems faster. You got to watch for this little ones wanting to jump out though.. .Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Members stikrz Posted July 24, 2006 Author Members Posted July 24, 2006 Thanks Wayne and Dano. Right now I'm leaning towards that messure net. Appreciate the help..... Chuck Take a man fishin' he eats for a day...Teach a man to fly fish and he may need a second job!
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Chuck, I had one of the shallow catch and release nets that Wayne and Dano are talking about. It was a great net and they are right about the ease of releasing the fish. I gave it up (my wife uses it now), for the ease of measuring the fish while still in the net. The measure net is a bit deeper (to hold the BIGGER fish you will catch) but it's still pretty easy to release the fish from it. I usually cradle the fish in my hand with the net between my hand and the fish, then simply turn the net over to release the fish. This method seems to work well for me and I don't have to handle the fish an excessive amount. John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM

Members Growler Posted July 24, 2006 Members Posted July 24, 2006 stikrz, I don't even carry a net anymore. I release almost all my trout, and find the Ketchum Release tool is extremely handy. Small, lightweight and you don't even touch the fish. It is important to de-barb your hooks though. On the occasion that I want to keep a trout, it is usually a small one (they taste better) and it's no problem to bring them to my grasp without a net. Just thought I'd throw that your way for consideration.
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 I always found it more time consuming trying to release without a net. When using a 6X-7X leader I would always have to play them down to a point I didn't think was healthy. I don't measure, I guess, I catch bigger fish that way. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Brian Sloss Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 I may be a little late on this one, but rubber is the way to go. I just have not ever seen one small enough for carrying around while wading. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497

Members stikrz Posted July 26, 2006 Author Members Posted July 26, 2006 If it's not too heavy like Phil is concerned about, I think it fits the bill of what a few people on this thread are wanting including a friend of mine. Thanks again for letting us know about it Bill! Chuck Take a man fishin' he eats for a day...Teach a man to fly fish and he may need a second job!
