Huckfinn Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 I was wandering if anyone has landed any catfish yet? Seen a picture of a guy who had got lucky and had 5 of them and he caught them at Taylors Bridge. And seen one picture of a Big one that was caught by noodleing it. And a friend of mine caught a little one on a point at Highpoint. But that is all I have heard or seen. Straw Hat said fish the deep side of a point now is that on bottom or on a bobber? Thank for any info. Huck
straw hat Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 That would be on the bottom Huck. The smaller channels (say 1 to 3 lbs) often come up on the gravel areas where the crappie spawn to nose around for clumps of eggs. So during the day they usually stage on the edge of these areas as long as there is deep water near by. With the drop in water temps lately they have probably (educated guess) dropped back in this deeper water until it warms back up some more. The wife and I stopped by a couple spawning areas today where we have been catching crappie. Big disappointment. Water temp had dropped several 6 degrees since our last visit and only we caught only 1 keeper. Water temp was 54F!! This was in the Ruark area.
Gilly Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Terrible day on the lake. Windier than heck. A bunch of shorts. 2 keeper crappie, 1 bass. Oh well, we're on vacation.......it's all good! www.drydock516.com
