mic Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Wanted to make it down to Blue Springs Creek, but couldn't. So, took the wife and kid to a small farm pond to small for the crappie in it. Ended up bringing 20 to the boat and took 15 home for some small fillets. The biggest fish was about 8 or 9 inches. Yellow seemed to be the color of the day.
troutfiend1985 Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 It's not spring creek fishing, but farm ponds can be great. Going to my uncles pond here in a few weeks and I can't wait. I'm the only one who fishes it, there is a bunch on LM Bass and big blue gill. Plus, this year I'm going to bait the grass carp in and do some Fly rod cheating style. “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis

You can catch those grass carp without cheating- I do in sometimes on a golf course. You just follow them around and cast something carp-ish like a brown woolly right in front of whatever junk they're munching on. Eventually they'll grab it. Takes some patience but its fun to get a grip and grin with a 40 pound grass carp. http://flyinthesouth.com/
ozark trout fisher Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Nice report. The pond fishing sure is hot right now. I got out one about a half mile from my house last night and caught a nice mess of redears and bluegill, along with one nice bass. But I think that the bass was on its bed, as were most of the other bass in the pond in the 11" up range. I didn't mean to catch it but I let her go really quick. I was reminded how good panfish taste when they are fried up about an hour after they're caught. Nothing better. I love pond fishing... It's different from trout fishing but I like it almost as much.

I really need a "big blue gill" pond. I just can't find one. All the ponds I have access to are not managed and have stunted growth. Anyone in the Scott AFB area who has one and will let me fish drop me a PM. If the blue gill are big, that's all I fish for...remember a managed pond needs to pull out four pounds of blue gill for every pound of bass. I'm respectful, pick up trash, shut the gates, and willing to put some sweat equity in a good hole.
