steveearle Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Came down for Easter weekend with the intension of getting some of the best night fhishing of the year in...Didnt happen. Got out daylight Friday and fished til 1:00-ish. Caught somewhere in the low 20s, numbers wise with 7 keepers. Big was an even 3lb. spot. 4 KYs, 2 SM, 1 LM on Redfin, Buckeye Wake-up, grub, and shakey head. Probably could have caught a ton on the shakey head but once the wind started blowing, we went out on the main trying to catch a big smallmouth...and got our butts kicked. Got back out fron noon-3pm, in between massive storms on Saturday. Started slow but 2 cool things happened. First we were fishing a pocket and my bro-in-law said "Hey look at that." It was a fox with 3 babies. The momma was carry some food (rabbit maybe) and ran 50mph across the back of the pocket and left the youngins basically in some house's backyards. They started crying and chirpin and I told him to go see if he could catch one. They must have been 4-6 weeks old and about 3 lbs. He jumped out and two ran into another yard while the other one walked right up to him and sniffed a little. I jumped out with my phone and shot a bunch of pics. It finally wondered off and we saw momma 2 more times. Anyone that frequents the right hand pocket of State Park just inside the main lake point may have seen her before--she wasn't shy. We only caught 4 shorts and 2 keepers, but right before we decided to go in, I chucked the Buckeye Wake-up across a grove of sunken cedar that were about 10 feet under the water and BAM! She weighed 4lb. 14 oz. and we called it a day. BTW, I like the hook-up with the Wake-up and its 3 #4 trebles. Are you guys putting 2's on you Redfin?
motoman Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Good report, and cool pix Steve. That's a crazy story with that fox!?!?!? - Re: the redfin, I use #4's myself. But, I've kicked around putting some #2's on it; just haven't gotten around to trying it.
Members tbooks Posted April 25, 2011 Members Posted April 25, 2011 I have seen a fox in that area before. It was on the south end of the bluff though. Must be a local. Nice fish.
steveearle Posted April 25, 2011 Author Posted April 25, 2011 I have seen a fox in that area before. It was on the south end of the bluff though. Must be a local. Nice fish. The first time we saw the fox it was in the back of the pocket, then the south side of the pocket, then the third time she was trotting north on the bluff coming from the south end. Guessing she has a den somewhere above the bluff. She ran south with her kill. I'm sure it's probably the same one.
