Members Westsider Posted May 4, 2011 Members Posted May 4, 2011 Does anyone know if there is acess to the creek around harmon? If so would it be better to float or wade? We are headed for are annual trip to th Buffalo next week and are going to try and fish crooked creek a few days. Thanks
taxidermist Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Water has been way up. the only access at Harmon is at the Harmon RD bridge, ou can fish anywhere from Pyatt on down as there are a couple places to put in and take out.But from Pyatt up its either drag or float, depending ont he water level. Ground is full and if we have abit of rain it could be bad.

Thank you for the information, we are going to be down for a week at Buffalo point and are wanting a few options over on crooked creek to fish, I've floated from Pyatt to Yellville(not in one trip)before and was looking for something above Pyatt or below Yellville if there is anything that is would be worth trying. Thanks again
taxidermist Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Not a lot below Yellville but the water is up way up and clearing, you can float to Ranchette right now. The brush will beat the crap out of you, fishing may be poor but its floatable.
Members Westsider Posted May 15, 2011 Author Members Posted May 15, 2011 Just thought I would share are trip with everyone. We just got back yesterday from a week of fishing on the Buffalo and crooked creek. The weather cooperated and the water was good for floating and fishing, a little bit to much flow on crooked creek for wade fishing but we did manage a couple of short trips. Last year the fishing was really tough as most of the fish were on beds and not really biting, this year they were concentrated in the deep pools and little backwater spots, I'm guessing because of the recent high water. So when we found those areas we really caught alot of fish and alot of really nice fish. They were biting a little bit of everything with crawdad type bottom baits producing the best, the key seemed to be fishing them really slow. This is the 7th or 8th year our group has been going to the Buffalo and crooked creek and was definately our best fishing trip yet. I have to say that the beauty of Buffalo river area amazes me everytime I go there and Arkansans are really fortunate to have such a majestic place in your state. We saw several bald eagles along the creek looking to get a fresh fish or snake meal(which there were plenty of both). Looking forward to next year.
joeD Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 A week of fishing the Buffalo and Crooked Creek sounds great. Where did you float and how'd the water look? I'd like to correlate water levels and flows per the USGS last week and your eyes on the water.
Members Westsider Posted May 24, 2011 Author Members Posted May 24, 2011 We floated from Maumee(not sure if that is spelled right) to Buffalo point. The water was really nice for floating, maybe a little bit to much flow for fishing but not bad. Crooked creek seemed to be flowing a little bit more than what I thought it would be at the level on the USGS site. Was definitly tough to wade fish it.
