OKFlyFisher44 Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Took the day off work on Monday for my birthday to spend the day on Crane Creek. My buddy and I fished the city park access in the morning till after lunch while hitting the Upper Wire RD access in the afternoon. The creek is in AWESOME shape and looked amazing. Log jams were all cleared out but were all jammed up right at the RR trestle. Creek bottom was super clean with no disgusting rotted leave piles on the bank. The rock work that was done along the stream bank by the baseball fields looks great as well, awesome section through there. We had a great day, caught a bunch of McClouds at both access points. The fish were definitely feeding like crazy after this flood. Every fish I caught had a big fat belly. This was the best trip I have had on Crane minus the 1st trip I made to Crane a few years ago, which was also right after a flood. Hot flies for my buddy were san juan worms while I stuck most my fish on a #10 pyscho prince and circus caddis. Caught my biggest McCloud to date on this trip as well, a solid 18" beauty. Crazy fight that wrapped me up on a root but luckily the 4X held and I was able to get to the fish to get it unwrapped. The creek is beautiful this time of the year.... Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...

Nortrad Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 You have this creek dialed in Chance, excellent report.
Andrew324 Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Great report and gorgeous fish! I have been taking your advice and tying bigger heavier nymphs. Perhaps that will coax more of those 18" Mac Bows to strike! Oh and happy birthday! Looks like a great present. ozark trout fisher Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Congrats, and great report. It's good to see someone is getting out on the cricks...Schedule's been crazy this year and I've mostly just been pond fishing, with the exception of a couple awesome trips to the Current. I am envious but glad to hear someone is getting out there and having an good time. That fish on the fourth pic down is a real beauty. A small stream trout that size is one to remember for a long time. I liked the scenery pics too, that creek is sure a pretty little thing. I want to get down there so bad but I don't foresee the chance coming soon-I'm having a hard time getting away for long enough to fish the rivers within an hour of my home, let alone one on the opposite side of the state.
