tjulianc Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 I am wanting to float/fish the lower Elk, and take out at Cowskin Access(43 bridge). What is the best access point up river from that access point for a good day float? I'm thinking it would be around the dam in Noel (based off the Google Earth), but I'm not familiar with that area and can't quite figure out where I should go to launch. Any info pertinent to this section of river will be greatly appreciated.
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 There's one off the side of the highway, 90 I believe it is. It's where the highway hits the river and there's a bluff with a pull off. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
ollie Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Wayne has it right. Turn off by Tyson Foods back towards the water and look for a bluff on the right side and a huge boulder in the water on your left. It is a bitch to get down to the water if you have a bad leg or knees, but it is THE only other access there. ollie Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 you could be right, I have never tried that one before. I just know of the one place. Use to you could launch right behind Tyson foods where there is a discharge pipe going into the creek. Gross, but the catties sure do like it! Wait a minute, I don't remember the creek running right next to the golf course? tjulianc Posted May 17, 2011 Author Posted May 17, 2011 Thanks Russ, I may get in touch with you for a shuttle. What is your favorite day float on the Elk river system for fishing and avoiding the crowds? I'm from AR, but just bought a MO license and plan on getting my money's worth out of it this summer. The lower Elk seems good to me, and its closer to some family of mine in NE Oklahoma. Thanks for the input.
