Hey WM kwall and i wanna go to devils lake too . Can you fill us in on any info you may have. Where to stay , what part of lake is best, etc.

I'll try to remember to bring a lake map down and talk to kwall about the lake at the campground. Devils Lake is big water surrounded by plains. Winds can make the lake dangerous in a hurry. Always check weather reports before heading out. Great fishing hole, though. We stay at Lakeview Lodge, www.lakeviewlodgedl.com. I know you guys are smarter than me and often hire a guide for a day. I would look at Johnnie Candle http://www.johnniecandle.com/ I've been to a couple of seminars he has put on. He is a great guy and a great fisherman as well. We are leaving July 10th.

What lodge were you headed for? We usually stop in Flin Flon for gas on our way to Slim's Cabins on the Churchhill.

My boss fishes Flin Flon every year. They catch huge pike up there. One of these years, I'm gonna have to go with him. The 24 hour drive each way doesn't sound like much fun, though. I have no idea what lodge he uses there.

The drive sucks big time but the fishing is incredible where we go. I love to catch northerns but they climbed all over my butt the first time I brought one into the cleaning house..."get that slimmy jack fish out of here." Old man Slim hated them. He's gone now so they're probably ok with it now.

I like pike just as much as walleye. There is a lotta meat on a decent sized pike. Litte more time consuming to remove the y-bone, but worth the effort, in my opinion. If Stockton still had pike in it I'd have no reason to go north to fish.

WM there is a way to pop those Y bones out of a fillet with a couple strokes of a knife. I have watched the guys do it and they show me how but never did master the art of it. Gilley loved to hear that term Jack Fish as had not heard that in a few years. Once you cross the border into Canada there is only one fish and that is a walleye. I got a friend that goes up there and fishs catfish in one of the rivers. They get some real monsters as he has sent pictures. The Canadians around that area really think these guys are crazy. But they do have a bloody good time hey

Hey....

Try taking a bus load of Boy Scouts to Canada (think it was '95) and not hearing that all the way back and for months thereafter....eh?

When we go up to Canada with just the adults we always take 'Lifters' with us for our hosts....know what that is?

Crappies???? :)

Nope, lol, lifters are the big bottles of rum with handles.

They have/had? a still that kicks out nasty moon shine. The rum makes it smoother......or so they tell me.
