I'm getting ready for my annual trip to Bennett with my dad at the end of the month. I'm tying up a batch of simple thread midges for droppers. What is your favorite/best color and size? I've got thread in cream, black, gray, and olive/green.

P.S. I'm pretty sure I'm in the first building on the left above the spring, but the cabin on the right. If you are there the week after Memorial Day, swing by, look for a gray Civic, say hi, and have a beer. I'll be there Monday through Friday. Can't wait.

I like the olive and black zebra on a 16-18 scud hook with a bead head and a little bit of dubbing or peacock right behind the bead.

Have fun on your trip. I'm watching the forecast and water levels with the hopes to go this weekend.

Depending on the clarity of the water and if the sun is up you might try a Primrose and pearl. But don't tell NoLuck I told you. That is one his favorites.

Also a BH flashback pheasant tail as well as a Hare's ear nymph. Size 16 or smaller. Also consider a RS2 or WD40 size 20 or 22.

Consider using fluorcarbon line size 6x as tippet.

But the biggest factor is the presentation. I'll someone else devulge that info. Don't want to give up the entire farm!!

Yeah, I’ll second the flashback BHPT, the RS2 #20 and the 100% Fluorocarbon tippet. I had a few fish rise on an RS2 even when the stream was high and muddy. I almost forgot about that day… gonna have to tie some soon.

1. I don't want to get you in more hot water with NoLuck, but do you have a recipe for Primrose and pearl?

2. On the BHPT, do you mean as a dropper or as a primary?

3. Love the Brit's...great pic. Want to take me hunting? laugh.gif

NoLuck won't mind. He has beat me many times with his technique.

2488 or 2489 scud hook

light yellow thread

copper wire rib

copper bead

also add a little flash a bo with the rib

I use the bhpt as a dropper.

AS far as the 2 Brits. That's Junior and Biscuit in their earlier years. They are 13 now and retired! Killed several hundred roosters over them in their day as well as a bunch of quail.

I look in my fly box and think about what should guide my choice of the best fly: the amount/angle of sun on the water, the water temp & clarity, what bugs are hatching, what the fish might be eating, and what worked last time. Then I remember what an old man told me... " Ninety percent of what a trout eats is brown, fuzzy, about 1/2 inch long and underwater."
