Members ChrisV Posted May 21, 2011 Members Posted May 21, 2011 Hey everyone, I pulled this guy out of the James River around Nixa, MO and was hoping someone could help me identify it. I've caught several of these guys, they are really aggressive. Thanks in advance.
flytyer57 Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 Looks like an Ozark Bass. Member of the Rock Bass (goggel eye) family. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
vonreed Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 That would be a Rock Bass or Goggle Eye. Same fish. Different names.
FishinCricket Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 That would be "good eatin'"!!! Gogglieeye!! State record? Over 16 inches!!!! Wow! cricket.c21.com
Gavin Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 Ozark bass...one of the 3 goggle eye species in Missouri...
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 It's an Ozark bass and native to the White river. The Goggle Eye, though present isn't, if I'm not mistaken. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Al Agnew Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 You're right, Wayne, the Ozark bass is the only rock bass species native to the White River system, and that's definitely an Ozark bass. Everybody just calls all three species goggle-eye, though. I wonder when and if they will distinguish the three species for record keeping.
Stoneroller Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 yeah classic ozark bass. such an understated fish, but quite striking. Fish On Kayak Adventures, LLC. Supreme Commander 'The Dude' of Kayak fishing www.fishonkayakadventures.com fishonkayakadventures@yahoo.com
