Members Lunker Lane Posted June 21, 2011 Author Members Posted June 21, 2011 My 25hp on the 21ft river boat jumps on plane as does the lake boat a 17 ft with a 90 hp. With this said what are you doing with the trim on take off? I have it trimed all the way down. I was out yesterday with my 9yr old son and it got up quicker. But still not like it should.

mosouthpaw Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 have you ran any quickleen or seafoam in the engine? sounds like a little carbon build up but you should post what model of 200 merc. Also did your boat perform fine and now its slow to go on plane or is this a new to you boat?
Members Ozark Outdoorsman Posted June 22, 2011 Members Posted June 22, 2011 Thats a heavy boat for a 200 2.5 Merc.. they are good top end motors but don't have the low end torque of the newer big blocks. Even still it should get up better than that, I hear that the plastic plugs (PVS plugs) are responsible for a lot of the hole shot.
Stoneroller Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 other than obvious issues with the engine, which you aren't seeing, i've seen this issue one other time. boat was fine last few times it was out, now in the past couple of trips it's really slow to get on plane. Turned out my buddy's boat had a crack in the gel coat and water had gotten into between the outside and inner hulls, the foam floatation in there was full of water... he sold that boat as quickly as he could find some sucker to buy it. Nice. stick it to someone else.
cullinby9 Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 If your only turning 3000 rpms you might be running on five cylinders when I took my boat out first day after buying it it was hard to get to plane would only turn 3000 got back to the ramp pulled the cowling off and a plug wire was not fully connected plugged it in went back out and bam turn 5600 jumpin out of the hole twice as fast. Those 99 tr 20 were some of the fastest boats built by triton had a friend that had a 99 tr21 with 225 opti it was a 70+ mph boat your boat should turn closer to 6000 than 3000.
redbird Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I had a similar problem with my boat, and changing the prop to one with different pitch helped immensly. Im not a Cardinals fan, but I am a Cardinal. If you know me you know what that means.
