stlfisher Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 I have 10 guys coming down to the park and the current this weekend for our annual trip! Kinda bummed the river is going to be overrun this weekend. Thought this was going to be during the week?
Gavin Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Just talked to Jim about this weekends Troutbust...should be around 120 people down at Ozark Mountain Ranch for the festivities, and the park is always packed...My wife & I plan to float Saturday. Well be at the bust....so say howdy if your down there.
stlfisher Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Gavin, I meant the tournament the weekend in September. I will be down the 16, 17, and 18 with a few college buddies. Have a good time this weekend. We will have to meet sometime though...I think we live pretty close to each other.

stlfisher Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 And that's exactly what the problem with fishing tournaments is. 5 of the 10 fish and only 1 other with me will fish the river. Kinda bummed to have a trip planned and coordinated a year advance to find out it might be very crowded.
Gavin Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 I wouldnt worry about it too much....Fish the river early & late that Saturday and you should do just fine. Mid-day usually isnt much good anyway. Cheers.

Have fun at everybody else's expense by all means.
Idylwilde Posted June 3, 2011 Author Posted June 3, 2011 Suggestion back: If all you folks are coming to fly fish why not join in the fun and help the American Lung Association? One day out of 365 we want to help by having an event where we help a great cause and gather up great prizes for the anglers who help. That is all we are asking. We do not expect for the 25 miles of the Current river to be shoulder to shoulder anglers like opening day at the park. Just a few true fly fishermen and ladies to have a great day.We do not tell all the party goers and canoeist to take their events and go someplace else. I'm sorry but the event will be Saturday September 17th. By the way we have a custom made 8' 2pc 4-5# fly rod as a prize, $325.00 value, Pair of Korkers Boots $196.00 value, 2 pair of Frogg Togg Waders $100.00 value, One pare of Hendrix Outdoors waders $181.00 Value, 1 Cortland CDM fly reel $54.00 value, Assortment of Fly Boxes from $10.00 to $30.00. A Grey's GS 9'5# 4pc rod with G2 Reel with Line and backing 20# and 9' 4x leader $179.79 value. The list is growing. But thank you for your suggestion 3wt. Take a Child Fishing they are the future of the sport.
3wt Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Alright, alright. I'm not trying to be a jerk. I just hate the tournemant mentality and I hate having a trip screwed up by a tournament - make no mistake, it will upset people that spent their time and money trying planning a trip to find this stuff going on.. Flyfishing (troutfishing for that matter) is not a tournament friendly sport - not on a public access stream. I appreciate that it's for a cause. I still think it's utterly inappropriate on this river. Find a lake that can handle the pressure. Like I said have fun, but realize you will be ruining somebody else's good time.
