trizkid Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Wondering how crowded u guys think it will be with the troutbust going on, also anyone been there in the past day or two are the cicadas starting to take off witht his warm weather? TrIzzout
watermen Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 can't be anymore crowded than last weekend I would think, don't know for sure. I was down at the in-laws last weekend and fished the black on sunday and current on monday. I fished a long 9 1/2 six weight with amnesia line and chucked and ducked with big black wooly buggers and black stone flies I hadn't used since michigan. Tons of cicadas here and there and lots in the water with the wind, fishing was ok but I fished the deep holes and used big water technique. nothing over 15 inches for me, but the evenings were pleasant and the cicadas tone down by then. They are annoying at times loud!!! Good luck this weekend there's ;ot s of cicadas for the floating line guys.
Gavin Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 You never know...think lots of the troutbusters focus on the park, and many just come to camp & party......Well be out floating Saturday so it shouldnt be too bad if you hike down toward Ashley...of fish up or down from Parker.

Members HighFlyer Posted June 2, 2011 Members Posted June 2, 2011 I actually fished upper tan vat last weekend and there wasn't that big of a crowd outside the park.
Members Adam Snodgrass Posted June 4, 2011 Members Posted June 4, 2011 I fished upstream from Baptist last Saturday and had a great day. Caught my biggest rainbow yet on a cicada imitation around 11 am and then ventured further upstream. I'm still no expert at identifying hatches but the bugs I saw looked like caddis to me so I tied on the largest elk hair caddis I had and worked one nice riffle/pool for a couple hours. Wow! The fish were rising like I've never seen before. I caught one after another in that spot and I was having a great time watching them violently lunge at my fly even when they missed it. I think I got 8 rainbows in about 5 hrs of fishing. The only downer was I lost a few flies and twice my line broke right at the tippett-leader surgeons knot. I think I tied a pretty good knot. What size leader and tippett do you guys usually use on the Current? I was using 5x and thinking about stepping that up to something a bit stronger. I hate losing fish and I hate that I left a couple swimming with a hook in their mouth. Any advice? Thanks, Adam
Members wackaloo13 Posted June 4, 2011 Members Posted June 4, 2011 I fished 4x for my big cicada patterns last weekend. I use 4x when I polish nymph. If I am fishing little nymphs and midges I drop down to 5-7x. I fish 2x for streamers. I use flouo for 2x-6x and mono for the 7x. When the water is really clear, I tend toward the lighter tippets and longer leaders. I also use smaller indicators. I fished upstream from Baptist last Saturday and had a great day. Nortrad Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Double or triple surgeon's knot? How big is the leader above your tippet? I have started tying triple surgeons for my tippet and it seems to be stronger than the double. Excellent report and it's great to hear the fish are rising. May have to bring some earplugs with me when I come down. Hopefully will get some cicada action.
Nortrad Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Here's some bugs that emerged from my vise this week. Hopefully a big brown or 'bow will commit.
