Can the members of this site help me to advise which single man kayak would be good for him and his son? They want to float and fish C&R on the Meramac River. He doesn’t want to spend too much. Any advice will greatly appreciated

Personally I would use a single man canoe set up just like Mr. Al Agnew has described in text and photos, in his well written posts. I used to have these posts saved on my computer, because of a need to remove a nasty virus from my machine; I lost those posts, and haven’t been able to find them.

I was gonna tell everyone I saw a Jackson Coosa at Alpine Shop in Kirkwood today...I've heard they've been tough to find. But they run about a grand, so maybe not his best option. Al's Vagabond is in the same price range. OT Guide 119, $400 at Dick's. Mine floats down the Meramec real nice.

The Wilderness Tarpon has been a round a long time and is well thought of. He could probably get a couple of 10' or 12' from Appomattox in Virginia at a reasonable price. The SOT (sit on top) kayak has a short learning curve and is very stable. The sit ins are fine but overall won't give the security feeling that the SOT does.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
