Kyle Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 A buddy and I are planning to float the 11point this weekend and we are looking for suggestions for lodging (preferably a hotel or cabin on a budget) and for a long float on saturday and a short float on sunday. We will be shuttling our own canoe and are looking for trout. Thanks Kyle
Brian Sloss Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Our lodging is booked on Sat but have openings on Sunday. If you go to www.11pointcanoe.com and click on camping and lodging you will see our stuff and on the bottom of the page are alternative lodging links and phone numbers. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Brian Sloss Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Greer to Turner is blue ribbon and I would expect quality fish over quantity right now. Turner to Whitten is white ribbon (6.5 mile) and Whitten to Riverton (8 mile) is also white ribbon. Turner to Riverton has fished well recently. Whether fly or spinning fish deep and heavy to get down to the bottom. The exception is if you fish cicadas you might get a few up top, but be prepared to go way deep if you are not getting any action on the cicadas. We can shuttle your vehicle for $35 if you don't want to hassle with driving all the way around yourself and loosing an hour before and after floating or the expense of driving 2 cars all the down here in the first place. Just bring an extra key. 417-778-6497 if need us. Good luck. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
2sheds Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Kyle - The other thing Brian didn't directly say (because he is gracious and un-arrogant) is that Eleven Point Canoe Rental in Alton is your best source of up-to-the-date fishing info for this river. Its definitely worth your while to use them to shuttle your stuff, just to swing through the shop and get the latest briefing or pick up some hot flies.

I would agree with this statement in it's entirety and would also add that 11ptcanoe offers a great selection of canoes.. My wife and I love our old town but if we made the drive to the 11pt we'd leave our boat at home and use theirs.. The 11point Canoe folks really are top notch! cricket.c21.com
Kyle Posted June 7, 2011 Author Posted June 7, 2011 What about Boom Hole access to Turner to get above where the spring comes in at Greer? Is it worth putting 2 miles up from the Greer access to be able to hit Greer Spring? or miss any crowds? Or could you paddle up to the spring from Greer Access? Thanks Kyle

Brian Sloss Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 The Long Hollow access is not an easy place to access, especially after the flood and it is a long drive back there. You can do it, but us commercial guys are not allowed to operate there by the forest service. The water is fine now upstream of Greer if you want to go. You can paddle up from the Greer boat ramp if you want, but you will have to pull two shoals to do it, so be prepared for that as there is a strong flow now. A smallmouth day from Cane Bluff to Greer would not be a bad idea and that is 7.5 miles, but really only a 1/4 mile of trout at the end. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
snap Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I was at greer last weekend. It would be a very difficult paddle to get up there as high as the river is and as fast as it is moving. You want a long float on Saturday.....7 miles, turner to whiten, or 14, turner to riverton. Sunday, 5 miles, greer to turner...blue ribbon. It won't take long to float any part, depending on how much time you want to leave for fishing!!! I also would suggest you leave your boats at home...the self shuttle is a real clock killer. And while you are shuttling, you are missing the best fishing times,IMO!!! Your best chance for lodging Saturday nite may be camping at turner....or on the river..great gravel bars. Get some cicada flys from Brian for blue ribbon. BTW, the fishing was great last week.

Do we have to cary the canoe a mile down hill to the river? or is it just a long drive back there? Also, can you fish the greer spring branch? Are there trout up the branch? Thanks again Kyle
