I got up super early and got down to Big Sugar around 6:30 Sunday morning. Didn't see a sole all morning until the floater came by around 11:00. It was perfect for fishing, still sprinkling some but not really hard or at least where I was. Things started to heat up when I tied on a 4" lizard in watermelon. I tore them up after that! Problem was I wasn't catching anything of size. I must have caught over 50 smallies easy and the biggest I landed was only 12" and very skinny. Now I did see some nesting, but but only one here and there. Question is whether they are just starting or ending? Saw tons of bluegill on nests and thought they were after the smallie spawn. I know the water has been up so not sure how that is going to effect the spawn. I did have one that was around 14", but you know how that goes, spit it out at the last minute. Oh well, it was a beautiful morning and day and sure beat anything else going on.

I took the two boys and wife floating Tuesday. I did not see nesting bass but sunfish were bedding in slack water and around weedy areas out of the current. I was mainly floating and herding kids but managed to catch 25-30 without hardly trying (four in a canoe is crowded). One 14" one 15.5", and one 16" all spitting up crayfish and fat as pigs.
