Jdecoudres Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 THANKS for the help guys!. One other question. When u size the hackle to the hook if they are too long, whats wrong with just triming them down to 1 and half size of the hook gap?
flytyer57 Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Sometimes you can get away with it, others you can't. The fine tips of the hackle will set the fly on the water and make the fly look more natural without breaking the surface tension of the water. Trimming the hackles will leave a blunt edge and the hackles will probably penetrate the water surface thus causing the fly to set lower than intended or possibly cause the fly to sink. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
