Members Whit Warriors Posted June 19, 2011 Members Posted June 19, 2011 I fished Stockton Wed. June 15th from 5:30 to 10:30 in the evening. Fished mostly shallow in the CC area. My son-in-law and I caught 23 bass off one point. We only had two keepers. Best bait was a PBJ football jig with a green pumpkin little critter craw and a Mustad black & blue jig with a blueberry little critter craw. The moon was full and bright, but both of us had to work the next day so we quit early. I also fished Stockton Sat. June 18th out of Mutton Creek and mostly fished the main lake Son's Creek and Chicken Rock area. We caught 30 bass and 3 walleye mostly on carolina rigged baby brush hogs, PBJ football jigs, a few topwater, and a few 10" worms. The main lake points seemed to be the best as every tournament boat was on them. We went up to Old State Park and watched a few friends weigh in at the Joe Bass tourny. The winning weight was 20.44 pounds! WOW! Second 19+, third 17.88, and fourth 17 something. Almost every one of those anglers stated big worms and jigs. Same things we fished with. THe main difference is location, location, location, spots, spots, spots. This really seems to be the time of year where the bass, I mean the big bass are offshore and holding to ledges and brushpiles. A GPS fishfinder is the ticket.
straw hat Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Thanks for the good report Whit Warrior. I have a trip coming up where I may be bass fishing in that same general area as your Saturday trip. I was wondering how deep the bigger bass were? Also, what did the water look like at CC when you went? Was it getting real green yet and did you happen to get the water temp? I would really appreciate any info. Thanks.
Thunderin Gobbler Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Hey Straw Hat, I went up there to CC and did some bass and crappie fishing Saturday afternoon. The water is starting to turn pretty green up there, but it's not real bad yet. Water levels are about back to normal now, most all the bushes are out of the water again. My graph was showing 80 degrees throughout the channel, and 83 in some of the smaller coves. Don't know how accurate it is though, water didn't feel that warm. Crappie didn't do very good for us at all, only caught 4 with 1 keeper. Bass fishing was a lot better. I probably caught 25-30 on plastic worms. No keepers though. We also had to watch the water patrol drag for a body right next to the ramp all evening. Apparently some kid(21) decided to swim across between the ramp and old bridge and didn't make it. We got there the same time as water patrol did so we unfortunately got to see most of the recovery. Not Good!
straw hat Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Thanks for the info Thunderin Gobbler. I heard about the kid on the news last night. I wonder if he was under the influence. As many boats that buzz through there, especially on a weekend, that would be a dumb move.
Thunderin Gobbler Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 We overheard a family member or something saying he was trying to be macho and swam out to undo his girlfriend's fishing line that got hung up. I don't know how true that is, but anymore I wouldn't be surprised.
Gilly Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Was the young man recovered? Call it a phobia of mine but ever since a high school friend of mine drowned and she was recovered several days later I don't like going near a body of water with someone still in it. No disrespect meant. www.drydock516.com
Thunderin Gobbler Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Yeah Gilly, they found him about 5 hours later. I know what you mean though, last year when the father/son drowned up there we tried our best to stay away from the Cedar Ridge area. Part of me didn't want to take the chance of finding them, but at the same time, I felt like someone needed to, for the family. Luckily they were all found and I wasn't the one to find any of them.
dennis boatman Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Little Bass VS Big Bass....I've fished Stockton for 30 years, and I would have to say this is the best bass fishing this year ever, at least for me. HOWEVER, I don't usually target bass, so who knows. I've had a blast the past few weeks. A good average would be right at 15" with a few up to 18". Yesterday, before the wind got to going!, fishing was a little slow. Got on the lake about 7am and caught a few right off the bat. Wind started picking up, and for me, that always spells trouble. I hate fighting the wind with the boat. The bass weren't as aggressive yesterday and were a little deeper, 12 to 15'. May try again today, but definetly tomorrow. A strike indicator is just a bobber...
