floated from lamb shoals to sunburst on wednesday and stuck several bows along the way. stripping a variety of streamers was certainly the best route....majority of the fish brought to hand via the natural slump buster. also nymphed some and landed a half dozen or so smaller bows on a #16 flashback pheasant tail dropper. switched the lead fly a ton and never hooked up on anything else except the pt dropper.

the fish have really colored up nicely.....gorgeous markings right now. largest @ 17". attached are a few pics. strip those smaller streamers in the riffle tailouts. the water level is almost perfect right now (finally).

enjoy.

Great report and nice fish! Slumpbusters and Clousers are my favorite smaller streamers, geez I would eat a Slumpbuster! I still can't get over this thing that is happening with nymphing....it's just off. I personally don't have a problem with it because I would rather have my fisherman banging banks with streamers anyway. It's still weird though.

it certainly makes no sense brian. ran through the possible scenarios on the drive home and couldn't convince myself of a good reason for the nymphing funk. the bows are certainly still there.

btw, sweet vid. nicely done.

Makes sense to me.

I have only managed to pull a few smaller bows on nymphs here after fishing pretty often over the last few weeks. Last time out, i finally got a more consistent bite on smaller golden stones and smaller princes. I had tried a PT also given most of the nymphs I see on the rocks are goldens and about size 16 mayfly nymphs. the sulphers are coming off pretty consistently in the evening but i havent seen much fish activity with it. even fishing yellow soft hackles and PT droppers before/during the hatch didn't pull anything really. real early and real late are about the only times im hooking up much. if anyone else has figured out any sort of pattern lately id be interested.

I suspect the flood came at just the right time in the cycle to wipe out a class and the fish have gotten away from searching the gravel. When things get back to normal in the insect cycle the fish will probably follow.

At one spot we stopped at Sunday there were literally thousands of fry which probably makes for an easy meal when the sun leaves the water.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Got out around fantasy island today for an hour from 3:45 - 5 and after trying a bunch of stuff finally got a couple nice bows one 15" one 16-17" on a pink San Juan worm in the fast current under the big sycamore. First fish I've caught since before the flood, had forgotten how much fun it is, super fat and sassy, thought I had some real bruisers on. Not sure where the small ones are or what they want to eat, but they have to be somewhere.
