Members Kevin B. Posted June 30, 2011 Members Posted June 30, 2011 Looking at the generation schedule tomorrow it looks like they are running light generation most of the morning. How wadeable is it when they are calling for 50 MW? Thanks. Kevin "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 30, 2011 Root Admin Posted June 30, 2011 Not bad- you can wade out at #3 and down at Big Hole. Better than 100 mw for sure.
dave potts Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 What number do you call to get the generation schedule and what generation rates are conducive to wading below the dam? The above post indicates 50 mw is okay and 100 mw is too much, so what would the cutoff rate be? Also, what is mw--megawatts? Thanks Dave
Members Kevin B. Posted June 30, 2011 Author Members Posted June 30, 2011 Dave, You can get the generation schedule here -- Generation Schedule. It is usually updated for the next day in the late afternoon (by 5:00), and is a projection, not a promise (which can be frustrating if you drive 2 hours to get there). While not a guarantee, it seems reasonably reliable. The MW is megawatts and I think (someone can correct me if I'm wrong) 50 MW is effectively "1 unit" while 100 MW is "2 units" and so on. Normally the schedule seems to show 50 MW increments. Kevin What number do you call to get the generation schedule and what generation rates are conducive to wading below the dam? Actually midnight to 1:00 AM I suppose. Dave
3wt Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 I'm still a little fuzzy about what's wadeable and when. I'm heading down in a couple weeks and want to wade the upper area in the mornings. It's been a couple or years, but I thought that 1 unit was pretty much wadeable up there. Is it kind of marginal for wading around the outlets and rebar? Thanks

Leonard Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Right now... they are using 50MW as 2 units... I was out the other night and that is what they had going ... Be very careful of wading right now... the bottom has changed A LOT since the Easter flood. a lot of the bottom has not settled in yet... it does roll out from under your feet.. If they are running I would say stay close to the bank... around about waist deep. The water is still really murky... at knee deep you cant not see your feet so there again.. the bottom has changed and there are new holes everywhere... a lot of the shallow areas has deepened Leonard http://www.taneycomonights.com

In lower generation a few years back I was disappointed in the lack of channel and 'stream structure.' But I also don't wand to end up swimming. I tend to stay less than waist deep down there anyway, since I really don't know the lake well.
