Members luv2fish Posted July 6, 2011 Members Posted July 6, 2011 Put in at Masters, trolled points, flats and steep banks 14-25' with lead core line and flicker shads. Caught a little bit of everything but not many of any one kind. Caught channel cat, white bass, bass, crappie, drum and bluegill. Any ideas on crappie? They aren't in any of my usual brush piles.
straw hat Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 I fish the CC area and also have had problems with my usual summer brushpiles. They just don;t seem to be on the channel drop offs or in the standing timber. We have been finding most of ours on isolated groups of trees along shallow banks, many of them pea gravel, with the crappie just 10' deep or so. Most of the better trees are on points. We may hit two or three areas before we find them. Usually when we do they are stacked in there tight. On one spot last weekend my wife caught 8 keepers on 9 casts!! But we had only caught 1 keeper in the hour before that. I don't know what else to say but good luck, they are out there.
Members Jacob Posted July 7, 2011 Members Posted July 7, 2011 Put in at mutton today, 10am. No luck on brush piles. Went long lineing a bandit crank bait (mini bass color) and pulled a bottom bouncer with a worm. No luck on the main lake but there were alot of fish in the bigger coves. 25' of water fish are 15' suspended. Total for the day Keepers 9 crappie and a 17 1/2" large mouth. About like 20 or so shorts. Off the lake by 4pm.
kwall Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Went with Bob Bennett two weeks ago . We drug bandits in coves for crappies caught 15 or so , he said fish aren't in brush like they should be that's why we went to dragg'in coves, pink worked well that day . PS-- Thanks Bob for the fun trip
Thunderin Gobbler Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Has anyone started fishing for these crappie under lights yet? I usually do pretty well with the floating light around brush, but haven't even taken them out of the storage box yet this year. Thought about giving them a try this weekend though.
kwall Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 With the heat during day I may have to try night fishing myself , just need a pointer or to From ya' all ,I have a green water light that will go down 25' , still in box
Thunderin Gobbler Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 We used one of those green lights last summer in Greaser Creek around some of the timber. It worked pretty well I thought. Didn't seem to be as many bugs around as with the floating headlights or lantern. Caught several fish, and it really pulled the minnows in.
kwall Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Think I may try by the dam at the edge of the drop off just to see what happens
