Went out today to lake springfield to check out an outboard i just got. Got the 5 hp 2003 Briggs & Stratton. first time out and it did not perform as expected. It may not have been in the water ina few years. If anyone knows anything any help would be greatly appreciated. I was able to get a couple nice fish to the boat. I caught the biggest bass and crappie of my life. The bass was around 24 inches long. didnt have a measure but put it to my shin and it was from my slightly above my knee to my ankle. I am 6'2 and when i got home measured around 24 inches. the crappie was at least 17 inches. both really nice. trying to upload a few pics. it was a frustrating outing but the fish made it all worth it. i am going to clean the carb out and change the spark plug and see if that helps. when it did run good it was an amazing outboad. The Bass was caught on a tequila sunrise power worm and the crappie on a war eagle double silver blade spinner bair chartruase and white.

That is definitely a nice bass. I plan on getting back on Springfield Lake sometime next week. Been busy being busy, which doesn't leave much time to fish. I will be throwing plastics, jigs and topwater.

Good job,

17 inches, huh? huh.gif You'd be in the state record ballpark on that one. Record MO crappie was 19 inches, and the best three were all taken from private farm ponds. You at least had a lake record there. Throw up a few pics!

I'm trying to add a couple. My camera has the file size to big to add and that is after trying to downsize it. I will work on it tonight and then see if i can post it. I'd say close to 17 it was big never had anything that big. didn't have my measure but I put it on a life vest and it took up a lot of the room on it.

I try to get out at least once a week on Lake Springfield. Hope to see you out there. I will most likely be the only boat with a Briggs & Stratton engine once i get it fixed.

There are plenty of 17" crappie. We catch plenty on Table Rock and Bull Shoals each year. 17" is not that far fetched at all.

Yeah, well I've never caught one. LOL

I'd never caught a Crappie at Lake Springfield until that one. I didn't think they existed in the lake until I caught one. I had heard they were in there, but never caught one.
