Members Ozark Outdoorsman Posted July 10, 2011 Members Posted July 10, 2011 Hey guys I fished last night, put in at Aunt's Creek around 5:45 and headed towards the James. First off the boat traffic was just stupid, in Aunts creek there was barely enough room to navigate out of the arm.. I don't understand why there is so much boat traffic in that arm, its not wide enough for that many boats. Then I rounded the corner around point 10 and there was about 30 boats coming down river at me and I was like this is the last time I do this. I took a rogue wave from an ocean sized boat at 35 mph that sent my 19.5 foot Hawk air born. I finally said enough is enough, I was trying to make it to Thompson Hollow but I just pulled in the first cove I could find to wait the traffic out. Made a few casts on a small secondary point and nothing, so fired the Yammy back up and headed to Thompson. Fished the points in Thompson and caught 5 K's on a pigsticker jig.. none keepers. I headed back towards aunts creek and fished a couple of docks in little Aunt's creek that produced a couple more short K's. Then we woke up early this morning and put in at Indian Point at about 6:30, I hit some of my smallie hot spots from a couple of weeks ago... nothing. So I decided to pick the 10" Zoom worm up and fish the flooded stuff for a bit about 8 o clock now. Second cast next to a flooded bush in 10 fow produced a 3 lb LMB. So I fished the rest of the bank out that way and nothing but 'Gill bites. Then I decided to pick up and move over by Jaques creek, and found a real long run out near deep water and fished it with the 1/2 oz Pigsticker for the rest of the morning untill about 9:45 and caught 2 keeper K's and a short Smallie. Fishing is getting much tougher, and when you do get a bite they don't hold on to it long. I got off the lake at 10 to avoid the boat traffic idiots and the heat.
techo Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Aunt's is crazy on the weekends. Not sure if there is a safe place to go. Cape Fair used to be better before the bigger marina opened up. Crazy there too. I try to just fish week days now. Tim Carpenter
Members Ozark Outdoorsman Posted July 13, 2011 Author Members Posted July 13, 2011 Went out again this morning and managed 7 fish 3 keepers. Put in at Indian Point and headed towards the Dam area and hit a few of my spots. Caught a couple early this morning 1 keeper LMB on a XD6 Crank on a long run out I found on the graph. Then I headed into Jaques creek to see what I could find, and found 2 more keepers up shallow in the bushes on a 10 inch Zoom worm before it got too hot. Then I backed out into deeper water and tried my pigsticker 1/2 oz tipped with a netbait paca chunk which has been a fish catching machine the last few weeks... no bites at all. Stupid boat traffic ran me out of there so I headed back towards Kimblerling and fished a pole timber littered cove, and point 10-20 fow with the jig.. no bites. It was getting hot at this point probably 10 O clock so i picked up the 'rig for my other 3 fish all shorts, all K's. I am seeing A LOT of suspended fish on my graph so I may have to hire Bill to get my drop shot game up to par . If you guys ever see a white and green Hawk Super 1900 with a HPDI hanging off the back of it buzz by and say hi.
Spinnaker Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 Hey guys. I have not been down to the Rock yet this year unfortunately. It is getting so warm here and there I am tempted to punt until Spetember but I really want to get down there sooner. I avoid weekends and come down only during the week. So, depending on the day, it appears you get off the water around 10 AM? When do you go out for the afternoon/evening? Thanks.
Martin Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 I can tell you that EVERYDAY...Cow Creek is a zoo, starting around 9:00 a.m....The few skier's I see out at 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. are few and far between, but some do start early. It's Friday, so the endless parade of 30 to 50 foot boats are headed for the back of the creek, for party time...lol...If only their wakes weren't so big. Yall be safe out there and watch out for those rogue wakes.
Spinnaker Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Martin, thanks for the reply. Its good for the economy and local tourism folks that so many folks are out there enjoying the lake.
