Jeremy Rasnick Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Fished the pothole with a buddy. We had a great evening. No fish, No Bites, and no boat problems. We threw what we thought were big swimbaits..........until we noticed what the rest of the guys were throwing. It looked like most people were throwing a rubber chicken style bait. I've caught fish that i was proud of that were smaller tha n the baits that most were throwing. I'm sure there are a lot of fish up there right now. You can fish warm water or cold water or a mix of both. Feast of Famine at the ol' PotHole.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 12, 2011 Root Admin Posted July 12, 2011 JR- I have some Castaic baits you can borrow next time you go down there. You should have called!
Jeremy Rasnick Posted July 12, 2011 Author Posted July 12, 2011 Do you have a rod witht the flexibiltiy of a broomstick to throw those? All in All it was at trip down memory lane on how the pothole can be so greedy at times yet so generous on others. Now that I look back I wouldn't give a nickel to go back on another "Stiper" trip. Next time i'll throw sliders and catch whites near the bank.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 13, 2011 Root Admin Posted July 13, 2011 Yea I do. Is anyone on the board fishing at the Pothole? Jeremy said there's dozens on the banks and in boats fishing down there and no mention of if here on the forum. I know sometimes ppl like to keep things quiet... and that's ok. But it'd be nice to hear just how good- or bad striper fishing really is down there. Just wonder if there's a bunch of stripers or just a few being caught.
emjay Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Last time I went down there were alot of people scattered throughout the limit bank fishing area. Saw probably 4 boats with only 1 throwing big baits. And the only bank fisherman I saw throwing big baits was my brother haha. Everyone else seemed to have a rouge tied on. Didnt see any stripers get pulled out but a few whites and 1 walleye.
vonreed Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I was down there the other day and talked to a guy who was there all day, fishing off the bank. He said he saw 4 stripers caught in the morning and 2 caught in the evening right before I showed up. There was way too many people there though. It was real impossible to find a fishing spot up by the dam. We fished for whites and walleye til 10 and never even got a bite. The only stringer I seen in the water had a largemouth bass. Nobody else had anything I seen.
emjay Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Vonreed, are you saying 6 stripers were pulled from the bank? If you fish down more by the road and toss your lure over the fence, there are some nice whites around there. Only problem is avoiding that fence when you reel back in.

We didnt try there because of the fence. I guess we should have. Yes I meant 6 stripers from the bank. But I didn't see it, so it may not be true. The gaurd that evening said he had seen 1 caught since he started. I would think the morning would be a lot better than the evening for the stripers. Plus a lot of the wannabees won't be out in the morning.
Jeremy Rasnick Posted July 17, 2011 Author Posted July 17, 2011 When I was up there a week ago, it looked like opening day of trout season at Roaring River. I heard a few days ago that the whites were knocking the paint of of the trusty slider. But as the pothole goes, its feast or famine......Don't go there with your hopes to high!
