I got out there before daylight on sunday with hopes of catching a biggun.

The water is slightly stained to clear which threw me a curve ball.

I was expecting crystal clear water,

but I guess thats a thing of the past with all the floods and fertilizer.

I found 89° water temps throughout the lake.

Trout were surfacing at daylight, so I chunked a spook around them. No dice.

I tried a smoke grub, too. nothing.

So I started fishing a jig in 10-20fow.

This seemed to be the ticket.

I caught 3 slot fish up the lake but none around the dam area.

I was alternating between the jig and drop shot,

since those were the only techniques getting bites.

A 12" crappie hammered the dropshot in about 12'under a small dock.

I was using a tiny fluke on that rig, but live minnows or gulp minnows would do fine.

I was impressed with the variety of fish in that lake, but the bass are giants and very well schooled from the fishing pressure.

I think night fishing and/or live baits in deep water might serve me better next time.

I went over to Brittany early last Thursday, did about the same, 2 bass in the boat, but missed several others, had some opportunities just could not stick them. Fishing deep with t-rigged craw type baits. This hot weather is making it tough, fish are sluggish, I try and get out an hour or so before dawn, fish until 0900 or so, and call it a day.

I'm told they go deep, under the thermocline.

but it doesnt have much oxygen.

Maybe some experts can chime in, Im guessing.

Yeah, I laughed when it mentioned the hump that nodody ever fishes.

Yeah, I know exactly where that is, it's a good spot. Me and John B were out on Windsor the day those guys in the story were fishing it,my notes say it was June 10, in the background of the large photo you can see a boat, I'm about 95% sure that is us, we were watching those guys fish shallow docks while we were fishing deeper water structure, they passed between us and the shore. I went out on Avalon yesterday early, caught 1/2 dozen 12 inch fish on 10" worms, I didn't hook any sizeable fish.

those windsor bass are chasing shad all over the place.

Its a fun bite, but once its dead its dead.

I did manage a slot fish on deep diver tho.

I fished Windsor this AM, ended up with 5 bass, 12-16" fish, all on 10" worms. I counted a dozen boats out there at one point later in the morning, funny there's that much pressure now, in the spring when the bass were easy I'd only see 4-5 boats out there. They were chasing shad early but it did not last long.
