MDC website Atlas shows this: Driving Directions

Phenix Access is three miles north of Ash Grove on Route V, then east one-third mile on Farm Road 33.

Highlights

This is a forest with old fields offering access to Clear Creek.

Does anyone have any experience with this conservation area and Clear Creek? If so, what's the best way to fish it and what has been your luck with it?

I got that wandering spirit again and want to try somewhere new this weekend that won't be too crowded.

Never been but if you want some company on Friday or Sunday evening let me know.

Will do Ringer...if I do it, it will likely be Sunday but gotta check with SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) to see if we have other plans.

It is skinny water and VERY murky. "Clear" creek.

I'd recommend the Little Sac. It's in the same general area. The float from the 550th road bridge to the HWY 215 bridge is a good one, I doubt you'd see anybody on the water. Access is relatively easy at both places. If I had a canoe or kayak of my own I'd do this float all the time.

Google this: E 550th road S and 90th road polk county mo This would be the put-in.

Thanks Riverman. Im not planning on floating, looking more at a wade/fish. With that said, what's been the fishing experience in that 'clear' creek?

I waded upstream from the access this spring. Caught 2 or 3 green sunfish and one little smallmouth, on a little crankbait. This creek is better suited for wading than floating. Let me know how you do, I only live about 5 minutes from Phenix access.

I waded up stream from the bridge Saturday, the water is very murky. I caught several small perch, sunfish, and an occasional small bass, but the highlight was a big carp.

There are a lot of carp in the creek, I watched them swim by the whole trip. Since I wasn't catching anything close to keeper size I tied on a white jig on my way back toward the bridge. The carp fought pretty good and really tested my drag setting! Nothing like ending the trip with a big one.

Sadly, I did not get a chance to get there, but after reading this I think I'll try as soon as possible. Fighting a carp on a fly rod sounds like a lot of fun.

Finally got out to the access today. Thoroughly unimpressed. Not worth the drive. I walked about and caught nothing on poppers and buggers. Could have been the day, but truthfully, if I'm gonna get skunked, I can get skunked a lot closer to home.
